How to make Easy Peasy Oilcloth Gift Bags – Tutorial

15 Feb

I love making these, they look so cute and are easy to make in a short time space.  I found the oilcloth in a shop in East London and thought it so sweet.  The design of the fabric lends itself perfectly for these little gift bags.  I made a few for the craft fair I did last year and they proved popular there.

Here follows the tutorial:

Cut out your fabric 8″/20cm square.

Right sides together, sew three sides together.

Cut out a 2cm square from the bottom two corners.

Place the side seam and bottom seam together and sew to make the base shape.

Turn the right way round.

Cut a 2″/5cm wide by 10″/25cm long strap – Twice.

Fold the two raw edges in and sew the strap together.

Place the strap 1″/2.5cm from edge seam and sew on the ‘wrong side’ to reinforce.

Repeat on the other side of the strap.  Repeat these last two instructions for the opposite strap.

Fold the raw edge of the bags opening over, and fold the strap back out, sew around the opening.

There you have it, a lovely little gift bag:) or two:):)
