Book Review on ‘Whip Up Mini Quilts’ – Katherine Ricketson

Whip-up's Miniature Quilts

This book can be found on Amazon.  A good place to start if you are feeling daunted by giving a large quilt a go.  It also focuses on small quilts with applique rather than traditional patchwork squares, although there is one log cabin and one nine square quilt included.

The book starts with some clear general information about  fabric choices , tools, making a quilt top, applique, a stitch dictionary and finally preparing the quilt sandwich including the basting, backing and binding there of.  The author also includes some useful information about traditional and machine method quilting.

It comes complete with 20 mini quilt projects of varying themes and a neat envelope of all the patterns needed inside the front cover.

I think the book is a good starting place for quilters of beginner and intermediate ability who would like to start and finish a project quickly – maybe even in a weekend.
