create your own free-form quilts – Rayna Gillman – Book Review

4 May

This book is brilliant.  If you are crazy about the idea of quilting differently or if you have never pieced in quilting before this book is liberating.  Rayna encourages you to be inspired by trying things without fear.

Rayna Gillman asks you to sort your fabric and scraps even that fabric you bought and have no idea why, put away your ruler and start cutting freehand.  Strips to cut, slice and dice and put back together not worrying about colour, just trusting in your instinctive choices.

All the way through the book there is a sense of fun and enjoyment inspiring me to pick up some fabric – anything at all and start sewing.  The finished results look fantastic too!

If you feel at all bound by the math and getting it right of the more traditional piecing this book will definitely spark your imagination to think outside the box.  As soon as I saw Rayna’s work I was fascinated.  I look forward to trying out her ideas and methods.

Happy stitching,
