Today I Have Been Mostly Pinning and…

21 Feb

Quilting.  I am waiting for the metal hardware for some bags that are in the process of being made.  So I thought I would pull out my quilt top, make ready the sandwich and start quilting.  I’ve put this bit of it off as I must admit that I’m still a little scared of this part of making a quilt.  The quilt top itself is fun, but this bit seems the ‘hard work side’.

With my little helper, my mum’s lesson last summer and a good youtube video we pinned the quilt sandwich together on the table.

Then I started quilting…this is the biggest quilt made to date,  it certainly takes time.

It was going well,

Until I ran out of thread on my bobbin – I wound some more on and started again – something wasn’t quite right but I continued merrily not thinking too much of it…

But when I turned over the quilt I saw this

Grrr, A big mess of thread – so that’s where I stopped.

Tomorrow is another day and I’ll be back on it with fresh hands, arms and eyes:)

Happy Tuesday,

Dianna

Good idea to stop there and continue tomorrow. It has happened to me before. Not sure why or how! There would have been some choice words said here! Hope it goes more smoothly tomorrow.

I’m glad I did stop, I could feel a fight with my machine coming on…not a good thing;)

DJ, When your machine just doesn’t sound right always check the back . That tangle indicates to me that somewhere the threading is at fault . What I do is start by rethreading the upper and lower threads and usually the problem goes away . It is amazing how astute our ears are and the slightest change in the sound of the machine indicates something is at fault.
The quilt looks fantastic It will be worth unpicking and redoing . Just remember to put your pins back in before taking out the threads otherwise you will have to restretch the whole thing .
This is the hard part but the effort is always worth it !
    Happy sewing .

Yep, I must have done something not quite right with the threading, lesson learned – I hope.

That happens to me when I am free motion quilting with a darning foot and I forget to put the foot down when I start.

It did make me mad – hopefully I learn and check esp after rethreading. Happy sewing:)

This quilt is amazingly large if it covers the entire table and more, so worth undoing and sewing again. Amazing work and I love the warm orange tones in the middle of the green turquoise tunnels, makes your eyes see everything in 3D. wow!
